My neighbor, Jackie, asked if I could watch her dog overnight while she went away for a business trip. As any dog owner knows, it can be difficult to leave man’s best friend alone for an extended period of time without worrying about them. You know, like making sure your pup doesn’t get lonely, or poop inside the house, or has enough food and water.
I know Jackie needed someone stat because she was leaving soon and had yet to find a care taker for Jolie, her pup. So, like a good neighbor, I agreed and expected nothing in return. What else are neighbors for if not for small but significant favors?
Jolie, was so loving and well behaved. Plus, she provided my dogs with a new temporary playmate. She really was no hassle at all. We genuinely loved having her over. Fast forward to a couple of days later. I get a random knock on my door, lo and behold, it’s Jackie bearing tokens of appreciation for dog sitting Jolie.
Her small, random acts of kindness helped restore my faith in humanity and my neighbors. I wasn’t expecting anything for watching Jolie. But here was Jackie, at my door, with not one, not two, but THREE separate gifts for me and my pups. What did she bring me, you ask? A bottle of Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ beer, a can of Tiki Dog gourmet dog food (the good stuff, people), and lastly, a certificate for one free drop in CorePower yoga class. Can I just say, BEST NEIGHBOR EVER!
It’s small gestures like this that bring a smile to my face and restore my faith in humanity. I would have agreed to watch Jolie again without receiving anything from Jackie but seriously, who doesn’t like receiving thoughtful, random gifts?
